A PERSONAL GOD
Our God is at hand and not far off; he is an ever present reality in our lives! In dire times and great times we have the promise of his presence and his indwelling.
Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. (John 16:13 KJV)
In the gospel of John the Holy Ghost which is called the Spirit of truth here is called the Comforter in John’s gospel in chapters 14 and 15.
The word for Comforter in Greek is:
paraklētos
par-ak'-lay-tos
An intercessor, consoler: - advocate, comforter.
Here in John 16 we are told he will guide us into all truth and show us things to come! The word for Guide in the Greek is:
hodēgeō
hod-ayg-eh'-o
From G3595; to show the way (literally or figuratively [teach]): - guide, lead.
How does he lead us or teach us without an avenue of communication other than reading the word of God? Answer; through communion (fellowship)! How is that fellowship accomplished? Answer; through speaking to one another; which is scripturally called prayer.
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. (Romans 8:14 KJV)
It is clear that to be a son or child of God one must be led by the Spirit of God. The word of God speaks to us of unction. We live in an ascending scale of spirituality to climaxing in the presence of God. In his presence is the fullness of joy is a declaration of the psalmist who knew him intimately. Our life, movement, and existence is in God and through God being in us.
For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring. (Acts 17:28 KJV)
We function through the unction of the Holy One: Unction in the Greek is the word: Charisma
chrisma
khris'-mah
From G5548; an unguent or smearing, that is, (figuratively) the special endowment (“chrism”) of the Holy Spirit: - anointing, unction.
But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things. (1 John 2:20 KJV)
We have an anointing from the Holy Savior who baptizes with fire and gives us the truth concerning getting his saved, sanctification, and sacred life in Him and walking in the light as he is in the light.
Isn’t it wonderful to have a personal relationship with God through the anointing of God’s Spirit living in and through us? I am so glad that God made it personal! Atheists and agnostics can’t understand or know the joy that we have in Christ; for the joy of the Lord is our strength and it is joy unspeakable and full of glory!
There is emptiness in us that only the Holy Spirit can fill. Personally there have been times that while praying and calling upon God his Spirit has touch me so profoundly it felt as if it was a physical touch that was electrifying as it surged through the whole of my being. It is those times that I know in my heart of hearts that God loves me profoundly.
One of my favorite verses of scripture is “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O LORD, my Strength and my Redeemer.” Psalms 19:14
I love personal solitude because in that physical isolation I enjoy the company of the Comforter through the words of my mouth in prayer and the meditation I pondered often resounded the heart of the Holy Spirit conveying to me those wonderful truths that transform my walk of faith. I know many of you who are spiritual understand the edification that comes from so personal a relationship with the Father; we understand when we pray “Our Father which art in heaven hallowed be thy name”. We know that we can come to the Holiest of Holies and find mercy and grace and an audience with our Father.
Wow! Our God is an awesome God! Selah
