The Expression of Depression
Depression in the body of Christ is at an all-time high. From personal observance I have found how debilitating that depression is in the lives of people who should have the “Joy of the Lord”. Depression is actually an inordinate excessive emotional mindset brought upon by a person’s own subjectivity. Hence their imagination has more to do with their anxiety, anger, mental vitality and physical energy. One of the products of depression is an abnormal fixation upon things that deprive a person. For instance; it could be a loss of a job, an unwanted divorce, a loss of a loved one, or an unexpected and abrupt change in a routine; etc. etc.
1st Peter 3:4 although speaking about the outward adornment of our person; has given us a phrase “the hidden man of the heart”. Which; is very significant concerning the working of the mind. It is also revealed in 2nd Corinthians 10:5 that we’re supposed to cast down every imagination or deceptive thought or induced emotion and take them captive! Holy thoughts are supposed to capture our imagination, the knowledge of God through scripture is supposed to steady and stay our minds. My prayer for those who are caught in the trap of depression is the prayer Paul prayed in Ephesians
That He may grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power by His Spirit in the inner man; Ephesians 3:16
The inner man which is the hidden man of the heart is a complex being which is capable of compartmentalization or in other to categorize different thoughts, emotions, inclinations, and proclivities in the mind. Many people are experts at hiding what is really inside when it comes to these different categories; but depression is one that has to have expression and cannot be hidden for long. In fact every emotion is fueled by thoughts and thoughts are introduced by in different ways; hearing something, an action of someone, watching something, something drastic happening, and then the spiritual side; demonic injection, or prolonged reflection upon sad or tragic things. We must remember that often the actions that manifest on the outside are things we focus on, on the inside.
The Bible teaches us that we can renew our mind because in fact we have a new man with a new nature that has a new mind. When our focus becomes the manna or bread of heaven which is the living word of God and we begin to apply those words to our lives; this is when the inner man is strengthen with the power to overcome, override, and overmatch the defeatism in our lives. Why? The treasures of the heart are manifested in our lives! If; the Word of God and the Life of the Spirit is the true treasure of the heart of the hidden man it will surely be manifested in our words and deeds and done heartily as unto the Lord. We will cast down every imagination and every high thing that exalts itself above the knowledge and will of God for our lives and walk in the light as He is the light of our lives. Depression cannot live where wholehearted praise, prayer, and proclamation of God is the heartbeat of life.
Brethren don’t give depression free rent in your head! Selah
Shalom, Agape, and Amen!
