WILLFUL BLINDNESS:
WILLFUL : a obstinately and often perversely self-willed *a stubborn and willful child*
b: done deliberately : INTENTIONAL *willful disobedience*
BLINDNESS : a : unable or unwilling to discern or judge *blind to a lover's faults* b : UNQUESTIONING *blind loyalty* *blind faith*
Many that are willfully blind, will not have the luxury of using it for an excuse when they stand before God, why?
(18) The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
(19) To preach the acceptable year of the Lord. Luke 4:18-19 KJV
However; we can apply willful blindness to many aspects in life. There are those who are willing to look pass the pain, suffering, and ruination of others because they favor someone. If Jesus calls us to be impartial when it comes to discernment and balance judgment, we cannot afford to overlook the devastation someone is causing just because we personally like or love them. Truth and Righteousness should be the guide of every Christian, and even as fellow human beings. Bias is a big part of bigotry, and prejudice always favors someone or something over others and is the offspring of real underlying hatred.
So brethren; are you willfully blind because of underlying bias that promotes debauchery over righteousness, are you willfully blind to the extent that your prejudice dictates whom you are truly loyal to, and whom you are truly against. If we have pleasure in those who say one thing and do another, aren’t we in fact just as guilty of prejudice or preferential treatment of someone or something over others or others things that do not match our preference. It would do us all a great benefit to eradicate unbiblical prejudice from our lives. It’s one thing to hate sin, and quite another to hate the sinner. God is Love, so Love like God. Here is a poem I wrote when I realized how much damage prejudice can do to a society let alone Christianity.
PREJUDICE
Prejudice is blind, it cannot see afar,
It lives for the moment, it feeds on pride,
who always has vanity at his side.
The tongue is the agitator of his cause,
hatred is the enforcer of his dictates, envy inspires his motives,
sedition is his secret desire.
He clothes himself with a cause to meet his own end,
he is an accuser of the brethren and of unrighteous sin.
Truth stands against him,
he makes him naked before our eyes, love is his downfall,
a little here, a little there, a sprinkle of care, a dash of faith,
soft words for harsh, and his walls start to crumble.
The sower of discord will reap a flame,
but the sower of love will be without blame.
The makers of peace shall be children like unto their Father which in Heaven,
The makers of grief shall have no relief, for like the Evil One, they are sowers of a destructive leaven.
Prejudice is a lie that transcends race, religion, and reality,
Prejudice hinders the work of God to bring grace, mercy, and salvation. Selah!
Shalom & Agape!
