WORDS & PROMISES
For by your words you shall be justified, and by your words you shall be condemned.
Matthew 12:37 MKJV
If God takes account of our words, to justify us or condemn us, let us also remember our word is only as good as the last promise we kept, not the last promise we made.
Some people make promises so glibly off the top of their heads without any thought of the dependence upon their word they gender in those they make promises to. I have learned from experience to take a lot of promises with a grain of salt when it comes to some individuals, while others I know; I find their word is their bond.
Idle words only produce confusion, condemnation, and resentment, it is better not to utter a vow than to make a vow then not keep it. As a minister, many times I am asked for funds or regular support by many here on face book and through my website. I have learned to never make a promise that I cannot keep or to just say I will; just to appease them for the time being. In doing this I am not responsible to keep a promise I’ve never made.
False promises foster false hope, and when that hope does not materialize, bitterness, unforgiveness, and resentment is the fruit of those glibly spoken promises. There are some people who think they are popular because of the promises they make to others. But the fact is; behind their backs people talk about not trusting anything that comes out of those peoples mouth until they see it happen.
My bible says that all the promises of God are yea and amen in Christ Jesus. To be a Christian is to be like Christ, and our Lord was a promise keeper not just a promise maker. If we are to be like Christ, let us examine ourselves and see if we are like Christ in this regard. Let us be quick to hear, and slow to speak lest our mouths get ahead of our wisdom.
During our self examination, let us ask ourselves have we made promises that we have not kept, then ask ourselves honestly why we didn’t, then repent and make it right with those we may have offended by not keeping our word. Repentance also includes restitution and reconciliation to validate it authenticity. Whether we realize it or not, people keep a record of un-kept promises. Why? Because our word is only as good as the last promise we kept, not the last promise we made.
For by your words you shall be justified, and by your words you shall be condemned.
